THE ENGLISH SUNRISE LAYOUT DESIGN

The brief for this college assignment was to produce a double-page magazine spread inspired by ‘sunrises’. Influenced by aspects of 1930’s design that frequently used the sunrise motif, I based my layout around sunbeams radiating from the left-hand corner. I took a variety of photographs of ‘sunrises’ that I found around the city of York and inserted the most interesting examples into my layout, combining some into a montage. The copy was written in response to the ‘sunrises’ that I discovered around the city. The contrasting typefaces were chosen to compliment the historical subjects of the photographs. The colours chosen for the background were also intended to be sympathetic to the photographic content.
This was my first college assignment and my first experience of using Adobe Indesign to produce a layout.
